OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa (OKR)

OKR Shines at the 2nd Annual West Hawai’i Exposure Fair

BY VICKY AKANA – On September 3, 2024, OKR proudly participated in the 2nd Annual West Hawai’i Exposure Fair at the Hapuna/Mauna Kea Beach Resort. This exciting off-campus career development event brought together West Hawai’i high schools, Hawai’i Island colleges, and other hotels, enabling haumana to explore potential career paths and learn more about various industries, including hotel & hospitality.

Over 600 haumana and faculty members from the following high schools attended the event including Kohala, Honoka’a, Konawaena, Kealakehe, WHEA, Kanu, HPA and Parker

Haumana, ranging from freshmen to seniors, showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as they engaged with our team to learn more about OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa and the broader hospitality industry.  We were delighted to provide insights into the diverse range of opportunities available in the hotel field, inspiring the next generation of hotel leaders in Hawai’i.

One of the highlights of OKR’s presence at the event was the showcase of our talented Chef Deanna Marks, an alumni of Honoka’a High School. Her inspiring journey from a local student to an accomplished chef captured the attention and aspirations of haumana, particularly those from her alma mater.

The fair not only allowed OKR to connect with haumana and faculty but also showcased our commitment to fostering local talent and contributing to the development of Hawai’i’s future workforce. We are grateful to have been a part of this event and look forward to participating in similar initiatives that empower young individuals to pursue careers in the hotel industry.
