OUTRIGGER IN THE COMMUNITY

Another Epic Duke’s OceanFest is in the Books

Waikīkī’s Premier Ocean Sports Festival – Duke’s OceanFest – treated hundreds of ocean sports aficionados and fans to 10 days of sun, surf and sand to celebrate the birth-week of Duke Kahanamoku, the famed Hawaiian waterman and Olympian revered as “the Father of Surfing.”

As the exclusive resorts and hotels sponsor for the festival and the title sponsor of both the OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels Legends Surf Classic and the OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels Beach Volleyball Challenge tournaments, OUTRIGGER blue was everywhere (and so was Hawai’i’s own Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore – pictured above signing autographs for the kids).

Congratulations to all the OUTRIGGER hosts who took part in the event and contributed to its success, including Aunty Luana Maitland who once again spearheaded the lei-making for Duke’s opening ceremonies. To Filip Humler, who won the adult two-man volleyball challenge along with his teammate Kyle Poppinga; Peter Mercado and Noah Loughlin who shredded it up in the Legends surf competition; Grace Maeda who provided great coverage for the event on OUTRIGGER’s social media channels, Orion Salter (Monica’s son – pictured above) who made this great dig during the youth volleyball tournament, Chase Lee (Meghan’s son – for ripping it up with his Dad in the Foil Competition), the OUTRIGGER Reef team for hosting a fabulous gathering for the Legends surf reception, the OUTRIGGER Waikiki team for being the hub of all the action all week long and to the whole OUTRIGGER Waikiki collection for being amazing hosts to the participants and crew.

OUTRIGGER On the Pitch, At the Stadium & In the Arena for University of Hawai’i Athletics

Over the past two weeks OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels activated their Diamond-level sponsorship of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Athletics Department by showing their support at the OUTRIGGER Nō Ka ‘Oi Women’s Soccer Tournament, home football games against Delaware State and UCLA and the women’s volleyball season opening matches against SMU and San Diego.

Congratulations to UH women’s soccer coach Michelle Nagamine “Coach Bud” on picking up her 100th win against North Dakota State on Sunday, August 1. Also, congrats to the Rainbow Wahine on their two wins to open the year and to our Football team’s victory against Delaware State and near-upset against heavily-favored UCLA.

One of the truly great promotions in sports, the OUTRIGGER Paddle Cam has been a fan-favorite in the Stan Sheriff Center for years and it’s now on the big screen at the Football games held on campus too. Paddle Cam Winners receive gift cards to OUTRIGGER partner restaurants including Duke’s, Hula Grill, Monkeypod Kitchen, Kani Ka Pila Grille, Hawaiian Aroma Cafe and Maui Brewing Company. Here are a couple images of the big screen in the arena at the women’s volleyball match over the weekend.

Of note coming up, the OUTRIGGER Invitational Volleyball Tournament will be held September 13 and 14 and we’re giving away two free tickets to hosts for the September 14 match against Texas State. First come first served. Details here.
