Dear OUTRIGGER ‘Ohana,
Thursday, August 8, 2024, marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires that swept through Lahaina, reminding us that our values of caring for our hosts, our guests and our place have never been more crucial.
To our hosts whose lives changed forever that day, we stand with you. Your courage and resilience in rebuilding your lives inspire us all. May you find solace and strength in the embrace of your fellow hosts, neighbors, friends and even strangers who have offered their support.
We extend our gratitude to guests for respecting our space and giving us the time to grieve. Their compassion and understanding have helped to bring comfort during this challenging period. As tourism returns to Maui, it serves as a reminder of the important role that guests play in our community’s recovery.
To our place, the cherished land of our friends and family in Lahaina, we send our sincerest aloha. May healing and resilience flow through your soil and the spirit of the community rise from the ashes. The return of our guests to these shores is a testament to the enduring allure and spirit of Maui—a spirit that will guide us as we rebuild together.
As we commemorate this anniversary, let it be a time of reflection, healing and renewed commitment to one another. If you are reading this and need help, please reach out. Our partner – Employee Assistance of the Pacific – remains our employee assistance program. Throughout this time, 1:1 sessions are available by calling 1-877-597-8222. You can also talk to your fellow hosts or supervisors. Please know you are not alone.
Together, we will continue to support one another, honor the strength and spirit of our OUTRIGGER ‘ohana and welcome our guests who contribute so meaningfully to our journey of recovery.
With aloha,
