OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort has been a founding sponsor of the Coral Coast Sevens Tournament since 2010. This year we saw the 2024 tournament kick off on January 18 with a record field of international teams to add to the local homegrown talent. The three-day event held at the nearby Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka saw record crowds for the Fiji National Sevens development side who won the coveted I-Wau Cup in the Men’s Division; the Matakesi New Zealand National Women who won the Nai Iri Trophy in the Women’s Division; and local favorites Dominion Brothers who beat out our FOR team in the Youth Division.

OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort hosted International Tournament Ambassador Dan Norton, former England Rugby Sevens great, along with the visiting international media team of Sera Naqama, Karl Te Nana, Waisale Serevi, Ken Laban, Rikki Swannell and Rasta Ravishenge.

OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort also sponsored New Zealander Fletcher Carpenter, one of the hand-picked Ambassador All Stars team members, and hosted him for an afternoon enjoying the resort’s facilities.

Play Ball!

BY KATHY FOLEY — OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels sponsored the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors vs Ole Miss baseball season opener, February 16-18.

We invited clients and partners to the Heineken Hangout at Les Murakami Stadium on Friday for some ono grinds from Murphy’s Bar & Grill and Superb Sushi, plus customary baseball fare and beverage.

On the mound for the season’s first pitch was Todd Gurley, former football running back who played in the NFL for six seasons, primarily with the LA Rams. Although a star-studded start, the ‘Bows lost a marathon 13-inning battle against 2022 College World Series champion Ole Miss, 5-4, in front of a sellout crowd.

Special guest first-pitchers for the following games of the series were Ethan Rogers (age 10), a 4th grader at Mid Pac who plays for The Kids in a Utility position (all positions) and whose favorite baseball player is Mookie Betts; and Kaimipono Mineshima-Eldredge (age 10), a 4th grader at Punahou who plays for the Manoa Rangers as shortstop, third base and catcher and whose favorite baseball player is Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Our own Sean Dee also made a showing on the mound.

In the final game of the series, the Rainbow Warriors dominated with a 13-4 win to secure the series split. Go ‘Bows!
