BY WASEROMA BALEINAMAKA — Castaway Island, Fiji Resort OUTRIGGER National Employee Day celebrations were a resounding success, leaving the Castaway hosts feeling valued and appreciated.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the management team’s personal touch. They took the time to visit each department and express their heartfelt appreciation for the remarkable work carried out by the hosts in their respective areas. This gesture resonated deeply with the hosts, as it made them feel seen and acknowledged for their contributions.
The day continued with a delightful feast at the Host Vuvale cafeteria. Hosts were treated to a hearty and delicious lunch, featuring a sizzling BBQ spread and mouthwatering ice cream for dessert. This meal not only filled their bellies but also filled their hearts with appreciation as they shared good food and laughter with their colleagues.
The celebration didn’t stop with the Castaway hosts alone; the guests also played a pivotal role. They showed their support and appreciation by leaving heartwarming notes in a visitor’s book placed at the reception. Yong Yao Lai Retires
BY KA‘IMI KALEI — On August 4, Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk celebrated Yong Yao Lai’s retirement. Yong has been with OUTRIGGER for 30 years and truly lives The OUTRIGGER Way by caring for our hosts, guests and the properties he has dedicated his time to. Yong is a familiar face to many as he was part of the mail department when he first started in the corporate office until he joined Embassy in the housekeeping department as part of the opening team. Always having a positive attitude and willingness to help, Yong will be missed by his team and the OUTRIGGER ‘ohana. We thank Yong for his dedication to the company and wish him a peaceful and joyful retirement.

Management wanted to take the time to show our hosts appreciation — thanks to Carol Lopes, executive housekeeper, and food and beverage manager, Justyn Wee, for supplying soda and Gatorade to keep our hosts hydrated during the long and lively days of summer. Bula Family,
We have just completed an 8-day stay at the OUTRIGGER Fiji Beach Resort.
Darren, Jack and Rajesh, what an awesome week we had thanks to you! We are impressed at a well managed 5-star resort. All your hosts want to be there and are very friendly. The food was exceptional thanks to Warren and his chefs. We really appreciated the adults pool or would have to look for an adults-only resort but Outrigger can cater for all. The nannies looking after the kids are an inspiration to us all as the kids just loved them. Whilst we do not have children but we could tell all the kids were happy and enjoying their time with the nannies.
Staff to mention, Eleni, Iwi, Villi and Sani by Vahavu pool, Adi Laite at Sundower Restaurant and the very happy room attendants.
A big shout out to Rajesh; he is everywhere and makes everyone welcome, because of him, Rong and I will go to Mauritius next year.
Darren, what a resort, we thank you soooo much for accommodating us; we will be back.

Friendly Football Match with Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives
We received an invitation from Centara Resort to play a football match with our football team in Dhangethi, a local island nearby. Unfortunately, we lost the game; however, our team had a great time and enjoyed the game.

We invited Lily Beach Resort staff to play a volleyball match with our volleyball team. After a very competitive game, our team won in 3 sets with both teams showing amazing talent. The match was followed by an evening tea.

On September 1, we set out on a fishing trip at 5 p.m. with 19 hosts. We had a friendly competition to catch the biggest fish. Our hosts enjoyed watching the sunset and caught around 30 reef fish.

We held a inter-department quiz night in August. Questions were based on resort product knowledge, knowledge about OUTRIGGER, famous landmarks and country flags. Winners of the Quiz Night were Finance and the IT team.

BY RENEE SPEAR — On August 25, the ORF management team gathered for a breakfast and farewell toast for Ceci Hamao. Ceci has been with OUTRIGGER for 6 years and has accomplished so much in different roles and is now the new general manager at OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel (OBC).

Jennifer Magadangdang
As housekeeping coordinator, Jennifer has risen above the challenges and stress of the busy summer. Housekeeping has experienced many challenges, such as staff shortages and linen challenges, but Jennifer tackles each task with composure and makes good decisions resulting in the best results for everyone. She delegates tasks by prioritizing the urgency of supplies to each housekeeper so we are able to meet guest requests and release rooms to the front desk to meet guaranteed arrival times. There are many unexpected changes that come about daily and Jennifer remains flexible to make changes in assignments several times a day due to extensions and early departure rooms. She makes efficient use of labor in her dispatch decisions that come about throughout the day.
Jennifer is also very flexible with her schedule and willing to work day and night shifts to help in other areas when needed such as public areas and room cleaning.
She is friendly, always coming to work with a smile and happy to greet her co-workers. She is fun to work with and very creative. We’re looking forward to her creativity as we prepare for holiday decorations to brighten up our office.
Jennifer is a huge asset to the department, and we are thankful for the talents that she brings to our team.
