Shari’s interaction with guests is always with a friendly, warm and welcoming smile. We all know she is quiet but effective! Shari has worked the grave shift as our night auditor and has become accustomed to not only working the shift by herself but also to the different types of people that enter the lobby and hotel at all hours of the night. She has a knack for knowing who are actual guests and who may potentially be a hindrance to our operations. In the past and on numerous occasions, Shari’s keen observations have alerted security to possible undesirables on property. Most recently Shari noticed a guest who would check out and check back in and kept doing so for several days. She also noticed an unregistered guest with the guest. Shari notified security and it was found that the guest was wanted by Homeland Security and Honolulu Police Department for a warrant on the mainland. The guest was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Thank you to Shari for her keen observation and vigilance in keeping herself, fellow hosts and our guests safe at night.

Bula Welcome to Chef Khun Anuchit Thamwapee
BY SANJALICA PILLAY — On July 25, the FOR vuvale welcomed Chef Khun Anuchit Thamwapee – Asian sous chef to the resort. The team sang the welcome song with much excitement upon Chef Anuchit’s arrival. Chef was overwhelmed and excited about his time at FOR. We wish him a successful and rewarding career ahead!
Executive Chef Priya Farewell
BY SANJALICA PILLAY — On July 27, the FOR management team held a farewell gathering for Chef Priya after 15 years of service. Chef Priya started with OUTRIGGER as a trainee and her career flourished. Her accomplishments were recognized in 2019 when she was confirmed Fiji’s first local female executive chef. The team presented a small gift to Chef Priya to acknowledge her many years of dedication to FOR. She will be sorely missed and is wished all the best.

July Host of the Month Front of the House | AJAY SHARMA
Ajay is an outstanding host and makes a positive impact on the Navasana team. He is a hard worker who always goes beyond the goals set for our department. He is dependable, efficient and unfailingly punctual. In fact, I have never worked with a person who gives as much attention to detail as Ajay does. In July, Ajay demonstrated his leadership skills in the absence of the assistant manager and supervisor; he was proactive and willing to make a difference in the Navasana Spa. Ajay goes above and beyond to help our guests and works great with other hosts. Also, Ajay’s name was mentioned quite a lot on TripAdvisor and Unifocus. Ajay’s yoga skills are outstanding, as is his knowledge, which helps him to connect with our guests. He is a true representative of wellness and will do well in the field in the long run.

July Host of the Month: FIONA HONG
I am honored to nominate Fiona Hong as our Host of the Month for July 2023 who goes above and beyond. Words cannot explain how great Fiona is in her role as a housekeeper. Reliability and dependability define her work ethic.
OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort is honored to have Fiona as a host. She has such a warm and caring spirit and it shows in everything she does. She is always in a great mood and exudes positivity. She always puts her heart and soul into everything she does.
When it comes to warmth and kindness, Fiona received numerous thank you cards from her guests. Her upbeat personality and willingness to help makes her a super special person. Our guests and her co-workers love her. She is quick to give hugs to those feeling down.
Fiona is a team player. She continually demonstrates initiative and rarely needs supervision. She has demonstrated that she has the knowledge and ability to complete her job in a timely manner and is willing and available to help when she is asked to perform additional tasks.
In this challenging month of July where mostly families stay in our hotel, Fiona has been instrumental in supporting our team and caring for our guests. She anticipates her guest needs in service and far exceeds any guest expectations.
