Outrigger Resorts & Hotels’ Koa Tree
BY MADELEINE NOA — A small group of hosts test-drove a signature experience that our Outrigger Platinum members are able to explore while here on holiday.
On Feb. 11 at Kualoa Ranch, the group planted an “Outrigger Resorts & Hotels’ koa tree.” Our koa tree was planted in a pasture that is used for their local grass-fed beef program which enriches the environment. The conservation practice, called silvopasture, marries native hardwood forestry and local grass-fed beef production.
While we planted our tree, we learned of the importance of tiered planting and led through the cultural protocols and chant while doing so. Kualoa is committed to revitalizing our Hawaiian forests by planting this native canopy tree and sustaining this resource for the Hawaiian forest to thrive for future generations.
Our group was also privy to some areas of the ranch that are usually not viewable to other guests and we learned about KualoaGrown, Kualoa Ranch’s diversified agricultural operation.
A fulfilling and well-spent afternoon; mahalo to our partner Kualoa Ranch for the enriching experience.
