BY HANNAH BURKMAN, CECI HAMAO AND MARKUS KREBS — November, or the Thanksgiving Month, was the beginning month of all of our festive celebrations for hosts and guests. Congratulations to:
November Host of the Month – Renee Kiyono Taniguchi
Our Host of the Month Renee Kiyono-Taniguchi receiving her certificate and prize from one of our managers and other front desk hosts
Renee has been with the company for 15 years and primarily has worked as rooms controller. She was excellent and mastered her responsibilities. She returned to work in a dual status as our night auditor. She loves her new role and committed to the late night hours. She is very proactive and reports anything unusual that happened during her shift. Renee plays an important role in making sure the resort is running smoothly and securing the safety of our resort during the overnight shift. She willingly accepts any shifts and has covered for sick calls numerous times. We have received positive feedback from guests about Renee’s wonderful guest service. She is responsible for communicating with guests as well as with all the overnight hosts, security and the leadership team for any incidents or emergency. Renee has trained new hosts learning the night audit process. She resolves guest issues to the best of her ability and lets the managers on duty and accounting know about credit card issues or payment follow-ups. We fully trust that Renee can run the night audit without any issues and are very lucky to have a night auditor that loves her job and exemplifies The Outrigger Way of caring for our hosts, guests and place.

October Host of the Month — Branielle “Mahea” Young-Velarde
“Mahea joined OBC in early May 2022. From the very beginning, she has consistently proven herself to be an invaluable asset to our team. She is extremely motivated to learn, determined to elevate as leader and enjoys challenging situations which help her to grow. She works as a night auditor and loves it! She believes that working the night shift has helped her to stand her ground and improve her confidence when making executive decisions.
In the month of October, Mahea was a key player in our overall operation. With our senior night auditor having to take an emergency vacation for the entire month, Mahea was next in line to carry the responsibility. Not only did she run our night audit for most of the month, she fully trained another host who had no prior knowledge on the audit process.
Mahea has a very warm disposition. This is demonstrated through her care for her coworkers and her compassion for our guests. She takes great initiative in all that she does and always completes her work with 110% effort. While her role as night audit is far from easy, she truly enjoys it, as it has pushed her beyond her comfort zone and fostered her desire to continue growing. It is with honor that we announce our October 2022 host of the month nominee, Mahea Young-Velarde!
