Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger (OBC) Host of the Month – August: DAVE HASEGAWA
Dave is OBC’s senior bell person, and he holds this role with great pride and responsibility. He takes ownership of the department and daily communication with the front desk. When he starts his shift early each morning, he follows up to learn about which groups, VIPs or quarantine guests we have for that day. Dave is a natural leader and makes sure to share pertinent information with the rest of his department.
Wherever Dave is on the property, he greets everyone with a warm greeting. He is genuine, sincere and caring. He takes time to learn about our guests’ stays and adventures on the island. He welcomes conversation and enjoys sharing suggestions for visitors to experience. Although bell staff has remained limited, Dave makes sure to find ways to assist guests when needed. If management is not around, he is comfortable making executive decisions with the guests’ best interest always at heart – this includes coming in early or staying late when needed, and justifying to management later. Dave also expresses kindness to all of his coworkers by asking how they are or how their day is going. For Christmas 2020, Dave gifted a Starbucks gift card to all of the OBC hosts.
Since returning from furlough in November 2020, Dave volunteered to give up his weekends off so that fellow hosts could visit sick parents who were receiving regular medical treatment. Dave never once complained nor has he ever called in sick since returning to work. In fact, Dave worked several hours of overtime to cover sick calls from fellow hosts. He is always happy to come to work, and is willing to stay until the job is done.
Management knows they can always trust Dave to do the right thing. He puts others’ needs first and always represents Outrigger in a positive and admirable light. He is extremely reliable and his team knows they can always count on him.

Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger Host of the Month – September: MICHAEL FENG
In September 2021, Michael was a significant help in many areas: service, staffing and security.
He receives positive guest comments often and is appreciated by his fellow hosts. He helped cover several shifts due to sick calls at OBC and OHANA Waikiki East by Outrigger (OEH) with short notice — even changing his days off to assist in monitoring his overtime.
On September 4 Michael handled an extremely difficult guest situation that challenged him and fellow hosts emotionally and professionally. Throughout, Michael remained professional and was able to get the guest to return to his room without incident. He worked with HPD and Security and was commended for taking command of the situation and handling it with bravery. Thank you for caring for our hosts, our guests and our place, Michael!

Host Appreciation at Hokulani
BY MITCH YOKOYAMA — October is a rather uneventful month if you take away Halloween. So, instead of looking forward to the end of the month for Halloween, Hokulani Waikiki by Hilton Grand Vacations hosts enjoyed chicken fingers from Raising Canes with a message of appreciation from me for their continued efforts in maintaining the resort and providing exceptional service to our guests!
